Turner, 1969, Reviewed by Theodore Schwartz of the University of California, San Diego. Schwartz warns the reader of his bias against structural analysis, comparing it to 'sleight of hand.' Turner considers rituals of the Ndembu people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo through his theories of 'communitas' and 'liminality.' Schwartz compare this to Claude Levi-Strauss' work with myths. He finds Turner's book filled with 'difficulties,' but still 'audacious' and well worth reading.
