UNIVERSAL NEWSREEL SYNOPSIS ISSUE #14
2 DIE - 4 TRAPPED IN BLAZE
A 5-alarm blaze in a New York City loft building becomes a grim ordeal when the back wall collapses, trapping four fire-fighters. Hundreds of volunteers battle against hope, clearing tons of debris by hand - still hoping after nearly three days for one-chance-in-a-millio miracle.
"SPACEMAN" COMPLETES 7-DAY TEST
America's first space-voyager completes his week-long test "voyage" at Randolph AFB, Texas. Airman Donald Farrell emerges from a hermetically sealed, 3 x 5 capsule after proving man can endure the rigors and loneliness of space and survive.
TUNISIAN CRISIS GROWS
The angry aftermath of the French terror bombing of a Tunisian town: French forces in Treaty-held Tunisian bases are blockaded; mobs clamor for outright action against France. The explosive Algerian issue becomes, no longer a French problem, but a touchy international issue.
LAPLAND MARKET-DAY:
In Sweden well above the Arctic Circle, Lapp herdsmen come to their annual market-day, a three and a half century old event that's become a colorful event drawing tourist visitors from all Scandinavia.
NEW PLUMAGE FOR SKI-BIRDS:
In the Tyrol, some cute little ski-birds show off their new winter plumage, a perky picture essay proving that for winter sports fashions you can't do better than the very home of winter sports, the Alps.
WINTER'S WORST STORM !
Half of America is blanketed by snow, gripped in the year's iciest cold wave, following record storms that swept North from Louisiana. As far North as Maine, as far West as the Great Lakes, snowfalls of up to forty-two inches and gale force winds have paralyzed cities, and marooned thousands.
