ADDIS ABABA.--The last Italian Consul leaves the country, passing through the city after a fourteen-day trek with his family through the wilderness from the interior. Local Customs officials hold up the refugees for twelve hours before escorting them to the Legation. Troops are rushed to the front in the train used by escaping whites as engineers construct a huge bomb-proof shelter in a hill overlooking the community.

BRUNO RICHARD HAUPTMANN begins the "Last Mile," thrust closer to the electric chair as the United States Supreme Court denies a request for a review of his conviction for the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh infant. The decision reached in the old Court House at Flemington, N. J., after the most sensational trial in the history of America, is confirmed by the Highest Tribunal. Little more than a year after his arrest in New York City, the silent German carpenter is left with the faintest of hopes.
