Also a diary of Bagot's first year in the colony (that is, late 1840 and 1841). Bagot gives detailed impressions of the watercourses, creeks, springs, waterholes, rivers and surrounding country he encountered in his various exploratory expeditions. He notes too the early settlers, station owners and farmers from whom he received help and hospitality. Mention is made of notable families and individuals, including the Horrock, Dutton, Morphett, Sturt, Hawker, Warren, Peter, Angas, Crayford, Gawler, Anstey, Grey, Jacob, Leake, and Hughes families. Photocopies of some pages from the manuscript are in file Y050/01/08. No information about the location of the original manuscript. Charles H. Bagot with his wife and 5 children embarked in Cork on 22 August 1840 and arrived in Port Adelaide in December of that year. The diary continues until November 1841, describing his search for suitable land on which to establish a sheep farm. Typescript has corrections in Keith Borrow's hand.
