I only began recording this boyobi (for a net hunt the next day) after the bobé arrived. In track 10, during a lull in the flow of the boyobi, an old man (Bombé) gets the women to sing a little ditty, to which he dances. In track 12 the bobé, as well as everyone else, are angry because the teenage boys refuse to drum anymore. Total time: 17m. Tracks: 9) 10m. 10) 2 1/2m. 11) 3 1/2m. 12) 1m, end Boyobi 9 Oct. '91 Yandoumbé. Tracks 13-15: from Boyobi 30 Oct. '91 at Yandoumbé. Another net hunt boyobi, of which I only recorded parts once the bobé arrived. In track 15 is a beautiful example of bobé whistling. The women's choir at this late stage of the Boyobi was of modest size. Total time: 32m. Track times: 13) 1 1/2m. 14) 15m. 15) 15 1/2m, end Boyobi 30 Oct. '91 Yandoumbé. END DAT 24'

Tracks 16-25: from Boyobi mid August '92 at Lom forest camp. This camp was for hunting elephants and consisted of at least 20 huts plus a central open tent for two Arabs, owners of the two elephant guns and employers of the Bayaka for a season of elephant hunting. I arrived & stayed 3 days because rumours reached me at Yandoumbé that a woman important to me, Poli, had died at this camp. I set off with 5 men and found the camp after 3 days. The rumours were true. She had died only 10 days before. This boyobi was to commemorate her on the first occasion I met her family after her death (I had just arrived after 3 months in Europe). With bobé. Total time: 49m. Track times: 16) 1 1/2. 17) 3 1/2. 18) 2m. 19) 4 1/2m. 20) 1 1/2m. 21) 6m. 22) 7 1/2m. 23) 9m. 24) 5 1/2m. 25) 7 1/2m . Boyobi mid-August '92 Lom continues on DAT 27'
