In 1971, Ofelia Domínguez Navarro wrote _50 años de una vida_, a memoir of her life. It includes most of _De 6 a 6_, but it also stands alone as a memoir and a testimony of Cuban life and society throughout her lifetime. As Cuba was a leader in testimonial writing, Ofelia’s contribution fit in with the methods of historical and literary inquiry. Ofelia Domínguez Navarro (1896-1977) belonged to the feminist, nationalist, and communist revolutionary groups in Cuba between 1920 and 1977. She wrote a memoir of her four imprisonments during the dictatorships of President Gerardo Machado and President Carlos Mendieta. She was a teacher, lawyer, firebrand, journalist, and activist for women and the working class. She was also one of the initial members of the Cuban Communist Party and a close friend of Julio Antonio Mella, its founder. She founded her own women’s and worker’s rights parties: the Unión Laborista de Mujeres and the Unión Radical de Mujeres in 1930 and 1931, respectively. She participated in the three national congresses on women’s rights, 1923, 1925, and 1939. She served on Dictator and President Fulgencio Batista’s delegation to the United Nations, ultimately leading it in 1957 and 1958.

Gárdos was a key representative of the social democratic women’s movement in Hungary under the Habsburg Monarchy. Clara Zetkin wants to come to Budapest to participate in the third social democratic women’s congress because it is of key importance to develop steady relations, and she has submitted the relevant proposal to the party leadership in Germany. She asks for information about the organizations of the Hungarian woman workers and the congress, for publication in Die Gleichheit. TITLE: Clara Zetkin to "Genossin Buchinger" [Szeréna Ladányi, Mrs. Buchinger], Wilhelmshöhe, 30 April 1918. The central leadership of the German party has decided to celebrate Women’s Day between 1 and 15 May. Ladányi in her report mentions that she had suggested already in January that Women’s Day should be celebrated at the same day at least in the countries of the Central Powers. Zetkin assumes that Ladányi had informed her as International Secretary (of the Women’s Socialist International) about this “worthwhile suggestion” but that the letter had been lost; in the future Ladányi shall send important information by registered mail. “I exceedingly regret that I couldn’t pass on/share (weitergeben) your momentous suggestion,” even whilst it would not have been possible under the given circumstances to realize it. Clara Zetkin, in this letter, informs Gárdos that the German party leadership has rejected the proposal to send a German delegate to the third social democratic women’s congress in Hungary. TITLE: Clara Zetkin to Mariska Gárdos, Wilhelmshöhe, 8 April 1909. DESCRIPTION: The letter is kept in the papers of Mariska Gárdos (Mária Gárdos, Mrs. György Pintér, 1884 or 1885-1973) in the Institute of Political History, Archives (Politikatörténeti Intézet Levéltára), Budapest, Hungary. Gárdos was a key representative of the social democratic women’s movement in Hungary under the Habsburg Monarchy. The handwritten letter by Clara Zetkin gives the “most cordial greetings from Germany” to the third social democratic women’s congress in Hungary. The German woman comrades will be happy to read that the reactionary ruling forces have not been able to stifle the “young, forward-striving woman workers’ movement” in Hungary, which aims to unite the “double exploited and oppressed” working women. Without difference as to gender, men and women of the working classes in all countries fight against the oppressors without taking note of their gender. The woman Comrades of all countries, with whom the Hungarian woman Comrades are in contact, regard the latter’s fight as their own fight.
