Title: 21th May, 1932. The Association’s Welcome Address to the Members From Iassy and To Those Who Arrived [at the Meeting]. Various Thanks. A Retrospective View on the Organization’s Activity for the last 15 years. Description: Manuscript of a speech delivered by Elena Meissner, important Romanian feminist, leader of the Association for the Civil and Political Emancipation of Romanian Women, at a meeting of the organization organized in Iassy on 21th of May, 1932. The meeting was dedicated to the celebration of the 15 years of feminist activity deployed by the Association for the Civil and Political Emancipation of Romanian Women. The speech contains a rather detailed and personal account of Elena Meissner’s view on the way in which the organization she led evolved over time. It provides precious information on the organizational evolution of the Association but also of the National Council of Romanian and on Elena Meissner’s approach to feminist ideas. TITLE: November 28, 1905. DESCRIPTION: Ženský list [Women's Paper] was a women's journal linked to Českoslovanská sociálně demokratická strana dělnická [the Czechoslavonic Social Democratic Workers’ Party]. Since 1901 it was edited by Karla Máchová (1853-1920) – the main representative of the Czech-speaking social democratic women's movement in Bohemia. The text describes the events of November 28, 1905 in Prague – the general strike and massive demonstrations for universal suffrage to the lower house of the Austrian (Cisleithanian) parliament (Reichsrat). The demonstrations were part of the actions organized in many cities of the monarchy by social democrats. The text is written from the working-class perspective. It describes November 28 as the “triumphant day of the disinherited proletariat asking its civil rights.” The author, most likely the editor of the journal, Karla Máchová, stresses that the proletariat is made up of both men and women and points to the fact, that large number of women were part of the procession, manifesting for universal suffrage in terms of suffrage for both men and women. She stresses that the right to vote will be universal only when it includes both men and women. In 1971, Ofelia Domínguez Navarro wrote _50 años de una vida_, a memoir of her life. It includes most of _De 6 a 6_, but it also stands alone as a memoir and a testimony of Cuban life and society throughout her lifetime. As Cuba was a leader in testimonial writing, Ofelia’s contribution fit in with the methods of historical and literary inquiry. Ofelia Domínguez Navarro (1896-1977) belonged to the feminist, nationalist, and communist revolutionary groups in Cuba between 1920 and 1977. She wrote a memoir of her four imprisonments during the dictatorships of President Gerardo Machado and President Carlos Mendieta. She was a teacher, lawyer, firebrand, journalist, and activist for women and the working class. She was also one of the initial members of the Cuban Communist Party and a close friend of Julio Antonio Mella, its founder. She founded her own women’s and worker’s rights parties: the Unión Laborista de Mujeres and the Unión Radical de Mujeres in 1930 and 1931, respectively. She participated in the three national congresses on women’s rights, 1923, 1925, and 1939. She served on Dictator and President Fulgencio Batista’s delegation to the United Nations, ultimately leading it in 1957 and 1958.
