Terry Malloy, the "seemingly soulless street survivor," unwittingly lures a rebellious longshoreman to his death in Budd Schulberg’s searing drama about the New York waterfront, the racketeering unions controlling it, and the kid who "could’a been a contender." Johnny, with Charley and Barney in his car, impatiently pulls up to Terry. Angry, he accuses Terry of failing to inform on what had happened at the church meeting. Johnny discloses that Fr. Barry took Runty to testify in secret session before the Crime Commission; he shows Terry the lengthy transcript which exposes Johnny's criminal operation. He threatens Terry and Edie.
