Now Oppenheimer has turned pacifist and the government will stop at nothing to neutralize him. And Teller is their star witness. Fermi and Teller continue discussing details; Teller and Strauss discuss Eisenhower's response to Borden's "loose cannon" accusations of Oppenheimer as a spy, and the (thus increased) risks to them – they hatch the tactical approach of removing Oppie's security clearance and the personnel security board as the means.

Romantic havoc ensues in the town of Bath when Sir Anthony arrives to arrange the marriage of his son Captain Jack Absolute to the wealthy Lydia Languish. Jack and Lydia are already in love, but because of Lydia’s obsession with romantic novels, Jack has disguised himself as a poor officer named Ensign Beverly – and he is only one of Lydia’s many suitors. The Rivals was Sheridan's first play, and this charming comedy of manners continues to be widely performed today. This play, and the character Mrs. Malaprop, are the sources of the English word "malapropism." The character's name is drawn from the French phrase "mal a propos," meaning "inappropriate." This aunt controls Lydia's inheritance until Lydia comes of age. Julia warns Lydia that the poor "Ensign" might want her only for her money. Stung, Lydia turns the conversation to Julia's fiance Faulkland who has failed to marry her during the entire first year Julia has been of age. Faulkland rescued Julia when Julia's boat overturned, and Julia's gratitude has made her tolerant of Faulkland's bad behavior. Lucy brings word of Sir Anthony Absolute's arrival. Julia slips away through another door.
