Abstinence Comes to Albuquerque provides a glimpse into a nationwide debate over what young people should be taught about sexuality. Through personal stories, community profiles, and expert interviews, the program highlights the differences between a strict abstinence-only-until-marriage approach and more comprehensive sexuality education. In the documentary film a ninth grader tells her mother that she’s heard some unusual things from a sexuality education program in her school. The family talks about their problems with the program, and a school board member speaks about its weaknesses. The film then profiles an abstinence-only-until-marriage program as well as a more balanced sexuality education program. Following the documentary are interviews with national experts on sexuality education and adolescent health.

"In Shelthorpe Primary School in Loughborough they pride themselves on valuing pupil voice. Now they have gone a step further by allowing pupils to video lessons and tell teachers what they think of their teaching.
The pupils in AST Lou Harrison's Year 4 class have devised a set of criteria to assess her performance. They have recorded lessons using a video camera and filled in feedback sheets - giving her a Green for 'well done', Amber for 'room for improvement' and a Red for 'poor'. The pupils have filmed the whole process from deciding on the criteria to discussing with Lou how she has done. The resulting pupil video is a unique experiment in pupil voice.
Lou describes how this felt like leaping off a cliff with no way of knowing what the landing would be like. Fortunately the experience turned out to be exhilarating and, during the discussion with colleagues and the head led by consultant Adrienne Jones, it seems that this is an experiment that may spread across the school."

"In St Boniface's College in Plymouth teacher Paul Scott has a very special group of pupils drawn from across the year groups. They have been using video cameras in the classroom to record the teaching and learning taking place and then commenting on the experience from the pupils' point of view. They have devised criteria and a marking scheme for deciding what a teacher is doing well or not so well and then used this to give feedback to the teacher involved - a session that is also recorded on video.
All of this is included in a unique pupil video which is shown in this programme and then discussed by pupils and teachers with consultant Adrienne Jones. The views of senior management as well as the staff directly involved seems to support making this an established part of engaging with pupils and improving their experience of school. The jury's out on whether it should be part of more formal assessment and performance management but so far the risk is definitely worth taking."

"At Whitefriars First and Middle School, Headteacher Lynne Pritchard has been instrumental in setting up a unique teacher training initiative in Uganda. The aim is to support and train teachers in Masindi through teacher exchanges, principally with her school in north London.
In the Teacher Video shot on location in Uganda we see how this project is affecting teaching practice in Masindi and how the UK teachers have also gained from their experience as teacher trainers. In the discussion that follows, consultant Adrienne Jones is joined by Lynne; teacher-trainer Helen Davies; co-founder of the project, Ronnie Katzler, and a visiting teacher from Uganda, Isaac Kizito. What are the issues facing UK teachers trying to support colleagues in a very different context - that of a rural Ugandan school? How do the Ugandan teachers see the project and what impact is it having? How does making a video change the way they perceive children's reactions and the attitudes of teachers?"

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a complicated behavioral disorder which is difficult to diagnose, manifests itself in adults as well as children and has far reaching effects on the lives of those who suffer from it, as well as on their families. This remarkable film shows in a short space of time many variants - boys and girls of pre-school age through adulthood. Children with ADHD have difficulty focusing attention, act on sudden impulses, and are hyperactive. Their brains do not seem able to organize and prioritize thoughts and stimulation. These qualities lead to failure in school and at jobs, low self esteem, and an inability to sustain peer relationships. Children can be a danger to themselves and others. We learn that one of the children set a fire without realizing the consequences; another steals, another bites and causes disturbances in school. One mother recounts with pain the suicide of her son. The only available pharmaceutical treatment is Ritalin, a compound similar to cocaine. Many parents want to avoid its use and try other strategies which are shown here. The film will sensitize educators and parents to a complex behavioral problem. College Adult

Current struggles to make colleges welcoming and relevant for students of color continue movements which swept across campuses fifty years ago. Agents of Change, tells the timely and inspiring story of how successful protests for equity and inclusion led to establishing the first Black and Ethnic Studies departments at two very different universities, San Francisco State (1968) and Cornell (1969).San Francisco State students, their supporters on the faculty and in the community, including the increasingly influential Black Panther Party, launched the longest student strike in U.S. history. In addition to curricular changes, they demanded increased minority student recruitment and retention, and the hiring of minority faculty. Student activists, like actor Danny Glover, demonstrated and faced brutal police assaults and massive arrests unleashed by then-Governor Ronald Reagan. In spite of these obstacles, Black, Latino and Asian student groups formed the Third World Liberation Front and emerged victorious, creating the first College of Ethnic Studies in the nation and igniting similar actions across the country.Meanwhile, newly recruited Black and Puerto Rican students at Cornell University faced isolation, ignorance and hostility from the overwhelmingly white campus and surrounding rural community. After a late-night cross-burning in front of the dorm housing Black women, outraged African American students compiled a list of demands, occupied the Student Union Building and armed themselves for self-defense after an attack by white fraternity members and upon hearing that heavily militarized law enforcement officers were assembling nearby. Fearing bloodshed, administrators chose to negotiate rather than retaliate, forging an agreement to accelerate the establishment of an Africana Studies and Research Center, changing the face of Cornell and higher education forever. The filmmakers, both of whom participated in the Cornell events, offer eye-opening accounts by the young men and women at the forefront of these groundbreaking efforts, which today’s young racial justice activists are boldly carrying forward on college campuses and beyond. This award-winning documentary features a dynamic soundtrack written and performed by Patrice Rushen and is punctuated by the music of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye and others from the era.
