Description
William Thomas (1793-1867) was born in Westminster, England, of Welsh parents. He was the assistant protector and guardian of Aboriginals and was the only first generation settler to seriously attempt to comprehend and sustain Aboriginal society. His bravery and moral conviction were undoubted but his advocacy of Aboriginal causes made him unpopular in colonial society.
