Viking Ship Netherlands- American, Robert McDonald, is a man with plenty of determination. He has built a 15 metre long Viking ship painstakingly constructed from 15 million recycled ice-cream sticks and held together by 6 tons of glue. With the help of his son and 5,000 Dutch school-children, the project took four years to complete. Mexico Climate- Think Mexico, and you probably think cactus and scorching weather. But this diverse country also boasts elegant, snow-capped mountains and sprawling glaciers. Like other parts of the world however, a changing climate is having an impact, evident on two glaciers within the Izta-Popo National Park. Eco-Village- Located just four miles east of the Welsh border, the small town of Bishops Castle, in Shropshire, England, dates back 900 years. Unspoilt and charming, it’s a welcoming and cultured rural community, with busy shops, cafes, a college and even two microbreweries. It’s also the site of a new type of environmentally-friendly village housing, the first project in a concept of 'living villages'. Brazil Gardens- Within the heart of this famed, bustling city is a tranquil oasis. It is the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. It is also a vital link to Brazil’s most threatened ecosystem, the Atlantic Rainforest. For over 500 years the rainforest has been eroded, largely for sugarcane and coffee. Now, a total of only around 7% remains in scattered fragments. Yet within this area is the greatest diversity of plant and animal species on our planet. Elephant Christmas- There’s a new Christmas tradition in Berlin and it has some of the city’s grown-ups very excited. Each year hundreds of unsold Christmas trees are delivered to the city’s zoo, much to the delight of the elephants, and to the human onlookers. Dead Sea Israel- At 420 metres below sea level, the shores of the Dead sea are the lowest dry land on earth. Actually a salt lake, ten times more salty than the ocean, the Dead Sea is fed from the Jordan River, but 90% of this flow is diverted upstream, mainly for agriculture in Israel, Jordan and Palestine. So the Dead Sea’s level is dropping one metre a year, and hundreds of massive sink holes have appeared along its shores--swallowing people, livestock, tractors, and even houses.

Kenya Rain Harvesting- Masai women in Kenya are harvesting rainwater and collecting it in tanks, which has improved water supplies and done away with the daily trek to collect river water. Organic Mattresses- Welsh sheep are noisy but very hardy. Native to wales and its sometimes harsh environment, they are tough little animals with soft pure fleece. Their wool is keenly sought-after for a variety of uses. The strength and purity of the wool has helped a small welsh company realize its dream to produce truly organic bedding. Green Donkeys- the 14th century town of Castelbuono is already top of the list for recycling in Sicily, and the mayor has enlisted the services of Teresa the donkey and three of her friends in the battle against Pollution. Yangtze Pollution- Stretching 6,000 kilometres, China’s mighty Yangtze river is the world’s third longest. Sadly it is also one of the dirtiest, the result of people, pollution and dams. It absorbs 40% of China’s waste water from factories, fields and city sewers that run beside it. The pollution is killing the fish and endangering the health of millions of people. Chile Earthworms- With water an increasingly precious commodity, the humble earthworm could well prove to be an environmental hero. A chemical free alternative to treating human and industrial waste, the worms are so effective they’ve joined the workforce of some of Chile's largest companies. US E-waste- The United States Government estimates that Americans generate more than three-million tons of electronic waste every year. UK Wind Power- Rising 108 metres above sea level, these wind turbines are the very visible face of Britain’s first offshore commercial wind farm, powering over 30,000 homes.

Green Island- For decades, thousands of political dissidents were imprisoned on Taiwan’s Green Island. Today, thousands of carefree tourists flock to the lush island with its coral reefs and spectacular marine Life. But this diving oasis is under threat--mainly from the tourists themselves. Plug-in Car- Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota, has a long history of hybrid vehicle development. Its Prius was the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. The company maintains its commitment, currently running government-certified road tests on its new plug-in hybrids. Green Gift Company- At international gift showcase, the Birmingham Spring Fair, a company selling unusual green gifts drew a lot of interest. The biodegradable packaging on Grobox Gardens says it all. It’s a garden in a box--simply plant, add water and in a little over a month, you could have a garden of flowers, fruit or vegetables to enjoy. China Pandas To Spain- Drop in to your local zoo and you’re bound to see exotic animals from the other side of the globe. It’s all part of a worldwide cooperation to conserve the species as well as giving us the pleasure of seeing these diverse animals. But what are the sheer logistics of sending an elephant to Berlin, a rhino to Budapest, or a panda to Madrid? Recently, China found out, when it fulfilled its promise to send not one, but two giant pandas to Madrid zoo.
