Description: The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in China is one of the world’s largest hydroelectric power stations. Delayed for decades, construction began in 1994 and the dam was completely finished in 2015. It has created controversy because of its displacement of over a million people and its flooding of archeological and cultural areas. The environmental impacts include: more instances of drought and less rain; landslides; more earthquakes; the risk of damaging local biodiversity and fish populations. The contents in this collection are videos, texts, geographical overviews, photos from the Science Photo Library, federal documents, feasibility studies and personal perspectives.
