A stone's throw from downtown Montreal, quirky artists, blue-collar workers and unconventional families are being forced to leave their old neighbourhood as high-tech firms move in. Like in so many other cities, the tech companies arrive with the promise of a rosy future--but it's one built on demolitions, evictions and the conversion of low-rent property to high-priced condos.
This is a portrait of one building and its residents--people like Constanzo 'Fartman' Manna, an eccentric shipper and packer who's headed for Chile to marry the love of his life and bring her back to Montreal; artist Luc Bourbonnais, who is fighting desperately to hold on to the loft that inspires so much of his art; and Cuban émigré Rolando Zambrano, who ran a neighborhood snack bar for nearly 30 years.
Shot over a period of six months and set to a pulsing Latin and rock soundtrack, 645 Wellington not only opens a window onto the lives of the building's residents but brings the building itself to life. We come to know the dark hallways, the corners and the doorways. We get to know them well. Just as they are about to change, forever.

CARE International is known throughout the world for its relief efforts of countries in need. This three-part program takes viewers to various countries in Africa to view how members of CARE handle their humanitarian projects. Part 1: Drought in Africa - Parts of Southern Africa are dealing with the longest drought in memory; the lives of millions are at risk. This part of the program looks at the ugly face of drought and documents the effects that two years without rain have had on the rural communities of Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Part 2: Roads - Considered the economic backbone of any economy, roads play a very important role in the distribution of food and aid throughout Mozambique. This part of the program documents the community-wide efforts involved in creating a reliable system of roads in this country. Part 3: Food Transportation - CARE distributes more food to countries in need than any other organization in the world. Here we see how this massive effort takes place; we follow the path food and supplies take from the port cities of eastern Kenya to the drought stricken villages of the north.

A very good study about the pirate fishing of toothfish and its impact on the fishing industry and the environment; it provides a very broad picture of the industry and related environmental issues by combining interviews with world experts on the fish, South African observers, a Greenpeace team, conservation experts and Maritime legal experts.' -EMRO Review
This eye-opening documentary illustrates the difficulties in controlling international fishing, as world fish stocks show signs of depletion. The Patagonia toothfish is becoming so valuable it is known as 'White Gold' and has caused an explosion in fishing. The value of this oily, white fish lies in its desirability as a delicacy in restaurants throughout the East and the United States; it is four times the price of regular white fish. This explains why people take the risk of fishing for it illegally. South Africa is one of the countries trying to end unlawful fishing in their waters, but it is 'like looking for a needle in a haystack.' Environmental groups are concerned that over-fishing will place the toothfish at risk of extinction.

Drug prohibition has failed. Drug usage rates have not declined and illegal drugs are more available - and cheaper - than ever before. At the same time, the costs of the drug war are staggering. More than one trillion dollars have been spent. More than 50,000 SWAT raids occur each year. Hundreds of thousands of non-violent drug offenders are wasting their lives away in prison. And more than 60,000 people have been murdered in Mexico over the past six years. 'America's Longest War' provides a brief history of drug prohibition, beginning with Nixon's declaration of war in 1971 and ending with Obama's broken promise to allow states to determine their own medical marijuana policies. It chronicles how, over the past 40 years, the drug war has escalated from a small domestic program, mostly focused on treatment, to the multi-billion dollar international war it is today.
There are many victims of the drug war, and 'America's Longest War' tells some of their stories.

Australia has long been seen as a land of potential, with plenty of room for everyone - provided they were white. This film recalls the fear and insularity that has shaped our population policy. Today, these anxieties are often expressed as opposition to further population increase. Others argue that the problem is not the size or make-up of the population but the way we choose to live.

BOOGIE MAN brilliantly explains the transformation American politics through the life of controversial strategist Lee Atwater, a blues-playing rogue whose rambunctious rise from hard-knuckled southern political strategist to Chairman of the GOP made him a household name. Atwater pioneered the modern GOP politics of fear and resentment, won the controversial 1988 Presidential Campaign, mentored Karl Rove and George W. Bush, and birthed the Tea Party and Donald Trump. With stunning never-before-seen footage, BOOGIE MAN is an eye-opening look at America’s obsession with winning at all costs, our deepest fears, and our political system’s disturbing descent into division and hatred.
