Abstract / Summary
Speech by the CIM President at the Inauguration of the Thirteenth Assembly This speech is part of a series of documents from the thirteenth assembly of the Inter-American Commission of Women (Comisión Interamericana de Mujeres (CIM)). The topic of the thirteenth conference was women’s civil and political rights in the Americas. All the documents from this conference focus on various aspects of this topic from women’s suffrage to women’s education. In this inaugural speech, the CIM president, Licenciada Graciela Quan Valenzuela, described the thirteenth assembly as a tool to be used to direct the women’s movement in the Americas. She claimed women were a new resource for political, economic, social, and cultural programs and argued that the CIM should help municipalities mobilize and coordinate all their resources by drawing attention to women’s capabilities as civic participants. This document gives a brief overview of what the president of the CIM argued the organization and women should do.
