Abstract / Summary
Report from the Guatemalan Delegation about the Civil and Political Rights of Women This report is part of a series of documents from the thirteenth assembly of the Inter-American Commission of Women (Comisión Interamericana de Mujeres (CIM)). The topic of the thirteenth conference was women’s civil and political rights in the Americas. All the documents from this conference focus on various aspects of this topic from women’s suffrage to women’s education. According to the Guatemalan delegation, because women’s legal rights had been extensively covered elsewhere, this country report focused on women’s civil and political rights. The Guatemalan delegation reported on women’s ability to participate civically and politically by outlining their marriage rights, age of adulthood, and voting rights. The Guatemalan delegation also suggested ways that governments and the CIM could promote women’s participation in citizenship duties.
