Abstract / Summary
Partial working draft of a manuscript titled "Mukanda" and containing the introductory argument and chapter 3. Main argument: "This book is not strictly speaking an analysis of ritual beliefs and practices, but a study in social kinestics." Chapter 3 explores the Aims, Role Structure and Temporal Form of Mukanda, a Ndembu boys' initiation ceremony with the function of removing a boy from the authority of his parents and placing him under the authoirty of a senior male of the tribe through a ritual circumcision.
