Abstract / Summary
Title: Speech Read in Behalf of Mrs. Alexandrina Cantacuzino by Mrs. Elena General Stângaciu at the Meeting Organized by the Colentina branch on Sunday, July 26 1931. Description: Manuscript of a speech held in 1931 by a member of Romanian Women’s Association, Elena Stângaciu, in behalf of Alexandrina Cantacuzino, the leader of the organization. The speech is important for the ways in which a “new politics” of women was defined by the leader of the organization. This “new politics” of women, characterized by a refusal to enter political parties’ structures, political non-partisanship, female solidarity and sacrifice for the public service, was to emerge in opposition to men’s politics, harshly criticized for going against the public interest and cultivating a destructive competition.
