- Abstract / Summary
- (Composer’s Notes) Asleep, the Prince, son of the Grand Sultan, enters the garden of dreams where he has gone night after night, year after year. There he meets the beautiful Princess who rises from behind blackened palms to clasp his hand and together they walk under the red stars and blue trees, stealing loving exchanges. In real life they are forbidden to marry since they have been betrothed to others. Each night the Royal Prince argues the conflict which finally resolves in his favor and a Royal wedding to his chosen wife is planned. He takes his place in the royal procession accompanied by a regalia of bands and rejoicing while thousands of people line the streets, throwing flowers, hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal couple riding on elephants, being led to the Royal throne room for the glittering ceremony and celebration. His Royal Majesty the Sultan, and his mother, Her Royal Majesty, and other members of the royal families accompany the young couple who are dressed in embroidered red, the bride wearing a golden tiara over her veil, clutching a bouquet laced with precious stones. The Prince is happy. The dream is always real, until he awakens in the morning light, his only hope to wait for the night, to be in the garden once again.
