- vom Barock bis zum Rock This CD marks the 50th anniversary since the term Rock was first mentioned in a musical context - from Bill Haley's Rock Around The Clock. From Johann Sebastian Bach to Elton John there were many changes - even revolutions - in the world music. During this long period the language of music was able to capture the spirit of each era. However, it seems that the essence and character of these various musical forms have not changed much throughout the years: the common key in their developments is the ability to express similar emotions - freedom of spirit, body and soul - through music. At the onset of our journey parallels between Elton John's Sorry seems to be the hardest word and Schubert's Margaret at her Spinning Wheel are found. These pieces display a similar Swing-like structure; the melody in both works is not placed directly on the beat, rather it is syncopated, giving the music the impression of Swing. It is astounding how this modern swing character can be already found in Liszt's transcription of Schubert's song that was created 150 years ago. …
