Sarah Swords describes the demographics of the rapidly growing older adult population and focuses on geriatric care management - an exciting and effective way to address the complex needs people face as they age. She outlines the processes of engagement, assessment, and intervention planning using a biopsychosocial perspective. These processes come alive during Swords’ initial geriatric care management session with Julie, a 64 year old woman whose husband recently retired. Julie had been the primary caregiver for her mother until her recent death and now she reports concerns about her own adjustment and health. Swords builds rapport and begins the assessment process of the multiple transitions and stresses that Julie currently faces. The video focuses on the assessment of anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment, and family dynamics as critical factors in creating an intervention plan.

What do national dementia strategies, constantly evolving policy and ongoing funding difficulties mean for people living well with dementia? Adopting a broad and inclusive approach, Shibley Rahman presents a thorough critical analysis of existing dementia policy, and tackles head-on current and controversial topics at the forefront of public and political debate, such as diagnosis in primary care, access to services for marginalised groups, stigma and discrimination, integrated care, personal health budgets, personalised medicine and the use of GPS tracking. Drawing on a wealth of diverse research, and including voices from all reaches of the globe, he identifies current policy challenges for living well with dementia, and highlights pockets of innovation and good practice to inform practical solutions for living better with dementia in the future. A unique and cohesive account of where dementia care practice and policy needs to head, and why, and how this can be achieved, this is crucial reading for dementia care professionals, service commissioners, public health officials and policy makers, as well as academics and students in these fields.

Reading this book cover to cover is definitely time well spent for your current and future career endeavors."...For all the writings about leadership in our profession, this work stands alone by addressing the realities and complexities of social work. In today's world, every social worker—even an independent practitioner—must learn to be an effective manager. MOM'S HOME
A film by Maureen Judge
Here is a compassionate and intimate documentary about aging mothers who live with their adult daughters. The stories realistically portray the pain of loneliness, the ailments, and the difficult financial circumstances experienced by many single, widowed and divorced women who make up a large percentage of the aging population.
The film follows three pairs of mothers and daughters who have been brought together under one roof by reasons such as a father/husband's death, degenerative illness, loneliness, isolation, financial circumstances or cultural tradition. Gloria is caring for her widowed mother May, who is coping with the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Originally from Scotland, they return to their native country and encounter the extra burden of re-adjusting not only to shared living but to a 'new' environment.
Charmaine has opened her home to her mom Harrian. Harrian had been living with her son for 15 years, but for the sake of his own family, the son felt it best that Harrian move on... and out.
Pam voluntarily moved in with her daughter Liz to help out with the finances. Now, after 11 years of cohabitation, Pam yearns for her own freedom.
All the women find themselves in an emotional tug-of-war as they grapple with conflicting emotions, changing expectations, social adjustments and a sometimes ill-fated commitment to do what's best. Candid and insightful, the film focuses on the all-too recognizable family dramas brought on by role reversals as Mom now finds herself reliant on her adult child.
