Four thousand years ago Abraham, considered the forefather of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, journeyed from the Iraqi desert to Arabia to Canaan. Today, we cross the borders of 8 countries following Abrahams footsteps in order to create a new film experience - the first co-production between an Israeli and a Jordanian. Abraham left Ur of the Chaldees, located in todays Iraq, on his long and complicated odyssey of thousands of miles to come to the land of Canaan, today shared by Israel and the Palestinians. This film follows that journey. After fifty years of hostility Israeli and Jordanians cooperated in producing a film on their common ancestry. It is the fascinating story of the life of Abraham with a unique Biblical, Koranic, and historical background. Against the dramatic background of the geographic variety of a different countries, this film reveals colorful ethnic diversity and traditions particular to the life of the inhabitants - some previously unphotographed. It also deals with the ancient lands varied religions from paganism and animist cults to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Well-known Muslim Arab writer and actor Hisham Yanis from Jordan, and Alex Anski, a Jewish journalist, actor, and broadcaster from Israel, guide us as they converse and compare versions in the Torah and the Quran, in Hebrew and Arabic respectively. Representing the sons of Abraham -Isaac, claimed by the Jews and Christians as ancestor and Ishmael believed to be their progenitor by Muslims, the Jordanian and the Israeli travel together in the very lands of Abrahams sojourn, discussing the conflicts and problems of the past and of the present. They conclude with a hopeful message of coexistence. Additional scholars contribute commentary on various historic and religious interpretations.

Buddhism, a religion that started in India, has shown a remarkable ability to adapt across race, language and cultural barriers. What became the dominant spiritual tradition of the East has now taken root and is flourishing in the West. Buddha Realms captures this contemporary spiritual phenomenon which sometimes manifests itself in massive edifices and gargantuan crowds of worshippers. The film suggests that Buddhism’s universal appeal lies in the astonishing plurality of philosophies and practices that have evolved from its ancient traditions. Yet despite these permutations, the Buddha himself remains the ultimate ideal. Whether as a simple ascetic, or the compassionate Buddha, or the "Cosmic Light," devotees believe the Buddha is the symbol of all that is great and good in this world and beyond. College Adult

This chilling film follows the everyday life in a Madrassa, a fundamentalist Islamic school in Pakistan. It is the first time since the attack on New York that a camera crew was permitted to enter this Madrassa, where the majority of Taliban leaders were educated. The school is a gigantic complex of study rooms and libraries with hundred-year-old handwritten books. More than a thousand boys live in this society without women, where the teachers crave to return to the period of the prophets. The boys, some as young as five years, are awakened at 4:30 for morning prayers. Homework, lectures, more prayers, fill the day until bedtime at 10 p.m. There is only a two-hour break in the afternoon. The aim is that the boys must memorize the Koran by heart, especially difficult since the Koran is in Arabic, which the boys don't understand. The young boys are schooled to believe that it is every Muslim’s duty to become a Jihad fighter and if necessary to place their lives at Jihad's disposal. We follow two pupils, aged 11 and 13, and try to understand why their families have sent them at such a young age to this harsh boarding school. The film also takes one to a huge rally in Pakistan, where the Madrassa teachers incite the crowd to voice their hatred of the West. The anger of the men is palpable. An important film to understand the Islamic mind. College Adult

Have you ever seen Muslim-American high school girls in full-length dresses and traditional hijabs (head scarves) playing full-court basketball? Prior to 9/11, the average Westerner had little more than one-dimensional views of Islam and Muslim women. Covered Girls opens a window into the lives of a colorful and startling group of Muslim-American teenage girls in New York and challenges the stereotypes many Americans may have about this culture. The film documents the daily experience of Kiren who coaches her high school basketball team, Amnah who has a black belt in Karate, and Tavasha who is cutting a CD of original rap songs. Their traditional clothing allows them to understand prejudices and to speak out about their faith, especially after 9/11, when people spat upon, pushed and threatened them. They are quite happy that their dress allows men to look at them as people instead of as sex objects. The film follows the girls from a Harlem recording studio to a Brooklyn mosque, revealing typical teenagers suddenly caught in a tug-of-war between religious extremism and the American dream. A closed-captioned version is available. Please specify when ordering. High School College Adult

The Mexican character, shaped by the fusion of Christianity and indigenous religion, is perhaps epitomized in the celebration of the Day of the Dead. This fanciful film takes us to the village of Patzcuaro, where, like villages all over Mexico, on October 31 people return home from everywhere to celebrate their ancestors and communicate with their long dead loved ones. This impressionistic pilgrimage takes us to the cemetery where graves are decorated and turned into works of art, with flowers, personal objects, food, offerings and thousands upon thousands of candles. For a twenty-four hour period,we follow Death on a tongue-in-cheek guided tour through the soul of a people. High School College Adult

The Fear and the Faith exposes persecution of Christians in Egypt as Moslem fundamentalism continues to grow. Never before has this important story been filmed. The conflict between Christians and Moslems is the most sensitive issue in Egypt. Both the Church and the Egyptian government have created a wall of silence behind which an ugly persecution of the Christian minority is occurring. The Islamic movement is bent on converting the eight million Coptic Christians living in their midst. They succeed in converting around 12,000 a year. A spokesman for the militant Jamaat Islamiya fighters reveals that the Koran instructs them to execute those who convert to Christianity. The Coptic Pope tells us that the conflict must be resolved by Egyptians, not by the international community. Isolated Christian families in poor areas of Cairo are especially targeted for conversion. Some inducements are financial and social rewards, but violent tactics are also used. We meet a Christian man who was shot and stabbed by Moslem fanatics, the Coptic cross tattooed on his wrist as a sign of faith, gouged out with a knife. He accuses the police of colluding with the Moslem fanatics, a common accusation. Also included in this film are interviews with the Coptic Church's Pope and with Dr. Osama Al Baz, political advisor to President Mubarak. High School College Adult
