It is 1918 and the end of WWI. Millions have died, and the world is exhausted by war. But soon a new horror is sweeping the world, a terrifying virus that will kill more than fifty million people - the Spanish flu. Using dramatic reconstruction and eyewitness testimony from doctors, soldiers, civilians and politicians, this one-off special brings to life the onslaught of the disease, the horrors of those who lived through it and the efforts of the pioneering scientists desperately looking for the cure. Narrated by Christopher Eccleston, the film also asks whether, a century later, the lessons learnt in 1918 might help us fight a future global flu pandemic.

Moving across the globe, you'll meet our characters: doctors, disease detectives, everyday men and women. Every one of them has stepped into the horror of an epidemic and emerged deeply changed. Examining the recent epidemics of Ebola, Influenza, and Zika, Unseen Enemy makes it clear that epidemics bring out the best and worst of human behavior, and that their effect goes far beyond the terrible tolls of sickness and death.

The screen of WELCOME remains black throughout most all the film as the actual dialogue reveals the filmmaker, ZHU Rikun being "welcomed" by Chinese government officials and being encouraged to make a film that satisfies their goal of presenting favorable news ("scenic " views of the area). Their "welcome" attempts to disguise government censorship through bullying and threats to the filmmaker. The Chinese Government workers do not want the filmmaker to document the lives of mine workers with pneumoconiosis and their trials and tribulations seeking compensation from the government. WELCOME records the dialogue between the filmmaker and government officials who obviously prize economic development above human rights and don't want the public to know how blatant they are about this. WELCOME presents the filmmaker, ZHU Rikun as one who protests and persists in telling the truth. He is a Revolutionist.

In Cuba, more than 50-years of isolation & restrictions have created a society where people have learned to be creative & inventive and adapt to the lack of goods & restrictions. In this film we meet some of these creative & inventive people and gain an amazing insight into how they have overcome many hardships. Cuba is a world leader in affordable health care and many of their medical inventions have been adopted worldwide. We meet the doctors, the inventors of vaccines & the recipients of free health care. Despite the lack of materials, their artists and designers are finding ways of creating amazing new stuff and gaining international recognition. We meet some of these artists and tap into their eternal optimism. With little access to the internet, clandestine publications have been created to let the population know about the latest news, music and movies – all distributed on hard-drives around the island nation. We meet the man who created "The Package" – the weekly "underground publication" that informs most Cubans of the latest news. And despite turning out some of the best baseball players in the world, from a young age Cubans are unable to play with a real baseball as they either can’t afford one or it’s not available. We meet the little leaguers and a teenager on the verge of stardom. Despite all of these issues, Cuba is changing, opening, reinventing itself.
