In this single 56 minute long track, Amelia's crystal clear voice is set in a soundscape generated by acoustic sources, using no synthetic sounds. The music is based on Raag Bhupali and the knowledge of Sound inherited by the dhrupad tradition, the most ancient genre of Hindustani singing. Like all the recordings in our nada yoga series, this album is designed to calm the listener's mind, supporting balance and well being. It may be used for relaxation, massages, hatha-yoga sessions.
The Sanskrit verse sung at the end of the recording is taken from the SOUNDARYA LAHARI, "waves of beauty", a hymn to the Goddess attributed to Shri Shankaracharya:
You are the mind, you are ether and air, you are fire;
You are water and earth, there is nothing not included in you.
To transform yourself into the universe,
You have taken this form of Consciousness-Bliss as Shiva's consort,
Shakti.
Mystic Journey - ancient sounds of the Diruba
It has many resonating strings that vibrate in synchronicity with its bowed strings, giving a rich, reverberating and sweet sound. For some people the dilruba's tender yet powerful sounds seem to come from an ancient time, evoking a feeling of "coming back home".
Gopal's music is especially suited for soft movement, yoga, massage, healing, meditation, trance, relaxation and also for listening while falling asleep. His music has a natural inward quality, taking the listener from sounds to the soundless, from the busy market place to an inner silence that rests within everyone.

This album is the natural sound of the dilruba (an Indian instrument which is a cross of the sitar and sarangi) recorded in a temple without any processing. The only accompaniment is the occasional sounds of the morning birds. Many people listen to this music for relaxation, meditation, soft movement, healing sessions and it is also music that can be listened to while falling asleep.This music was recorded in an old abandoned temple near the ocean in India. Gopal played this rare multi stringed bowed instrument in that temple at sunrise, without any intention of the music becoming a solo album. There was a beautiful empty silence in the temple and a feeling of letting go and disappearing into the music.
Through meditation, Gopal came to understand that the silent gaps between musical notes are significant: they can be a doorway to go beyond the busy mind. Music that gives space for silence can allow the listener to enter an inner, soundless place of peacefulness. This meditative quality of the dilruba is expressed in this album. The name dilruba means " beloved of the heart" and also "the thief of the heart". Gopal discovered that the dilruba has a wide range of "colors", from deep rich tones to higher sweet sounds, from playfulness to heartfelt emotions... music that can touch the heart and soul.
