POLES OUST KREMLIN RULE, HUNGARY RIOTS
Nationalist uprisings shake Russia's satellite empire in East Europe. Poland successfully ousts Kremlin spokesmen in her government, after days of demonstrations and ominous troop maneuvers. In Hungary, seeking to follow suit, demonstrations give way to armed revolt, and Red army troops, tanks and planes battle in Budapest to stem the insurgents.
"BATTLE HYMN" HERO, COL. HESS VISITS KOREAN 'CHILDREN'
Air Force Colonel Dean Hess, the famed "Flying Parson" of World War Two and Korea, revisits the hundreds of Korean orphans who are now his wards, after his rescue of them from battle zones and founding of an orphanage. A modern new building is under construction now--to which is pledged his earnings from his book "Battle Hymn" and the forthcoming U-I film of the same name.
HARMON AWARDS, for outstanding achievements in aviation, are presented by President Eisenhower, at the White House. Honored are the world's fastest woman pilot, and the pilot of the first round-the-world commercial jet flight.
CONCRETE BED--
The Army Corps of Engineers gives Ole Man River a concrete bed, in a massive engineering job to check erosion of Vicksburg levees by the Mississippi. The huge mattress of flexible concrete is laid in a round-the-clock operation.
SPORTS
HOT HOCKEY--
The New York Rangers face the Montreal Canadiens, and set out to avenge a 5-0 defeat. Tempers are hotter than the game itself, penalties aplenty in a two-way thriller. Fighting all the way, the Rangers tie for 1st place in the League with a 3-2 win.
SNIPE CHAMPIONSHIPS--
The Western Hemisphere Snipe Championships begin in Bermuda. A 17-knot breeze makes for choppy going over the seven-mile triangular course, and an attractive sight, as the trim little sloops representing seven flags--slip along.

WAR IN EGYPT
Major crisis confronts the world as Israel attacks Egypt, and France and Britain prepare to move troops into the Suez Canal. Egypt is bombed by British jets, even as the U.N. General Assembly meets in emergency session to consider the threat to peace. President Eisenhower declares American policy, after the world has seen Britain and France veto peace proposals in the United Nations put forth by the U.S. and Russia.
HUNGARY FREE -- FACES NEW RED THREAT
Fraternization along Hungary's borders symbolizes the nation's independence of Russian domination. But as medical supplies are shipped in, the debris of battle is cleared from Budapest streets, as the revolution's dead are buried, Soviet troops move into Hungary again, a new threat that follows Premier Nagy's declaration of neutrality, and appeal to the U.N. for a guarantee of Hungary's hard-won sovereignty.
TEXAS RANGERS get new steeds, in a switch from horses to horsepower. Sleek '57 police cars supplant the trusty horse as transportation for the Lone Star State's preservers of law and order.
ITALY RIOTS.
In Rome, a student demonstration swells from 500 to 10,000, in support of Hungary's anti-Red fight. The demonstration turns to a riot when police turn back a march on Italian Communist Party Headquarters.
HORSE SHOW OPENS
Pageantry, color and thrills fill the bill as the 68th National Horse Show opens in New York. Mexico's Gen. Humberto Moriles tops crack riders of 5 nations in a gruelling jumping event, to win the Good Will Challenge Trophy, and Canada's Mounties stage their spectacular Musical Ride to end the evening in splendor.

RIOTS PROTEST HUNGARY SLAUGHTER
Angry mobs across Europe demonstrate in bitter protest against Russia's bloody repression of Hungary's revolt. In West Berlin, thousands take part in a torchlight procession, while in Paris and Amsterdam, Communist Party Headquarters are stormed and set afire.
PLANE HITS TOWER.
4 die, 17 are injured when a private plane hits an 800 foot radio tower in New Jersey and spins down into an apartment house. More than a hundred in the house were menaced by flaming gasoline and flying wreckage.
VETERANS DAY observances at Arlington National Ceremony pay tribute to the dead of America's wars and to 22 million living veterans. Screen star James Stewart, an Air Force Reserve Colonel, is the speaker.
CARRIER SAILS.

60,000 longshoremen strike during contract negotiations in New York, paralyzing the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Hundreds of ships are trapped in port, their cargoes unloaded, while mountains of goods clog the piers.

HUNGARY EXODUS CONTINUES
Dramatic scenes on the Austrian border as Hungarian refugees cross to freedom. Under the cloak of darkness, they inch across a log spanning a 14 foot canal. In early dawn, they dash across marshland to safety in Austria. At the rate of 6,000 a day, they arrive to swamp relief facilities.
FREAK BLIZZARD.
Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio are virtually paralyzed by early storms. Whole communities are isolated. Emergency stores are carried to East Springfield, Pa., by helicopter.
DUTCH ST. NICK.
In Amsterdam, Saint Nick makes his traditional entry into the city on horseback, signalling the start of one of the national feast days for half a million children and parents.
