Skiing enthusiasts will love the visits to three of Eastern Canada's most popular and most accessible ski resorts: the Domain of Killien Resort in Ontario; then Gray Rocks and Mont St. Anne resorts in Quebec. The Domain of Killien is located in the Haliburton Highlands and is a sophisticated hotel with superb food. Visitors can choose between cabins around a lake or the main lodge, and winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice-skating, while water sports and hiking may be enjoyed in the summer. Next we reminisce in visiting Gray Rock Resort, once a popular resort outside of Montreal that offered amenities such as a pool, saunas, and exercise equipment, as well as weekly ski classes and mini-tournaments. The final destination is one of the most popular ski resorts outside of Quebec City, Mont Sainte Anne. This luxury resort has the highest elevation in Canada and offers year-round activities. Golf, mountain biking, and paragliding are just a few of the activities enjoyed in the summer, while cross-country skiing, dog sledding, and night skiing are highlights of the winter fun.

Alive with celebration for the Festival d'Été, the streets of Quebec City are filled in the summer with colorful clowns, comic street jugglers and talented artists. Men in traditional red and blue uniforms re-enact a famous 1769 battle on the Plains of Abraham. Everyone is involved in the festivities - the very young are enraptured by flying acrobats while older people parade around with painted faces. Once inside Quebec City's imposing stone walls, an important history lesson is learned through its original architecture - every single building, including the most photographed hotel in the world, Château Frontenac, is preserved to respect the city's rich heritage. Viewers will totally appreciate this special glimpse of European life in North America.

Ottawa is Canada's capital city, with a distinctive cultural center blending old and new architecture; much of which can be seen boating its Rideau Canal Waterway. Parliament Hill, visible throughout the downtown area, is one of Canada's most recognized landmarks and the seat of Canada's federal government; it too is the site of the "must see" Changing of the Guard. The National Gallery of Canada houses the world's largest collection of Canadian art, including a section devoted to contemporary Inuit art. The Canadian Museum of Civilization is the country's largest and most popular cultural institute; located on the shores of the Ottawa River, it presents over 10,000 years of Canadian pre-history, history, and culture. The National Museum of Science and Technology chronicles the technological development of Canada, including the Gregorian reflecting telescope and important logging machinery. Here too we witness the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride, an evening of traditional entertainment with a troop of 32 horses and riders performing cavalry drills choreographed to music. Our intro to Toronto brings us to popular attractions such as Ontario Place, Harbourfront, Power Plant, Craft Studio, and CN Tower. We also explore the Toronto Zoo, the world's third largest zoo, which displays over 5,000 animals in a zoological park complete with ponds, waterfalls, and floral displays.

Vancouver is surrounded by water on three sides, is Canada's busiest port, is stunningly beautiful, and is a center of arts and learning. No wonder people love this place. Here we explore one of the world's greatest urban parks, the 1,000-acre Stanley Park; also the Vancouver Aquarium, which introduces visitors to underwater environments ranging from the Arctic to the Amazon. Granville Island, a small peninsula connected to downtown via the Granville Street Bridge, is a multi-use facility including industry, commerce, and entertainment; then to Grouse Mountain, an aerial sky ride that takes visitors on a one-mile journey above the city. Also we remember the Royal Hudson Steam Train, a 1930's restored steam engine that once offered rides from Vancouver to Squamish. Next is the Calgary Stampede; called the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth," this annual exhibition celebrates the agricultural and historical legacy of the past. In Banff we visit the Banff Springs Hotel. Built in 1888 it is one of the lavish hotels constructed by the Canadian Pacific Railroad to entice visitors to ride the rails to the Rockies and enjoy the Upper Hot Springs Pool. Lastly, we take a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, getting a spectacular view of Banff and the entire Bow Valley.

Tour two of Canada's most historic and cosmopolitan cities: the island-city of Montreal, famous for its international appeal; then to Quebec to join in its annual Winter Carnival. First stop is Montreal, North America's largest bilingual city; where French and English both are spoken with ease. Food is an important part of Montreal life, and there are culinary treats for everyone, from gourmet French restaurants to delicatessens and pastry shops. No visit to Montreal would be complete without a trip to St. Catherine's Street, where shopping is supreme. Other attractions include ice skating, visiting the Natural Science Museum and Polar World. Casino nightlife is always popular, but be sure to end your visit here with a romantic carriage ride through Old Montreal to view the architecture. Our tour continues to Quebec and the world's largest winter carnival. First begun in 1894 by French settlers to celebrate before Lent, the carnival has grown into an important event for both tourists and locals, with activities and fun that last for 11 days. Visit such events as snow bathing, axe throwing, and wood chopping competitions. Enjoy a delicious maple syrup snow cone while attending a highlight of the Winter Carnival, the International Snow Sculpture Event, with participants from around the world. Before you leave the city, take a break from the carnival's activities and visit one of Quebec's main attractions, the Chateau Frontenac, one of the most photographed hotels in the world. Built overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, the hotel provides spectacular views from all vantage points.

Restaurants, museums, galleries, shops, spas, and other sports are available so there is something for everyone. Chateau Lake Louise is a year-round playground for celebrities, and this resort hosts a celebrity sports invitational each year. This year's event included Robin Leach, Ali MacGraw, and Angie Dickinson. Another of Canada's premier skiing resorts is located in British Columbia near Vancouver, the Whistler Ski Resort. Canada's premier resort is a family-friendly destination and is special because of its two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. Side by side, they offer over 8,000 acres of skiing and snowboarding possibilities, but activities are offered year round for everyone.

Located on the tip of Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Victoria is a modern city with architectural and historical ties to England. It boasts palatial structures and parliamentary buildings that rival its London counterparts, and its double-decker buses and customary "afternoon tea" are clear reminders of British cultural influence. In this program, Hosts Jake and Mieke de Boer take viewers on a whirlwind tour of one of North America's great cities. The tour starts at the Swift Sure Regatta in Victoria Bay, where over 250 yachts compete in the annual 132 mile racing event. The next stop is the Inner Harbor Causeway, one of historic Victoria's most recognizable features, which once functioned as a footbridge across James Bay. The tour then moves to Duncan, the site of the Native Heritage Center, where viewers see artisans from five native cultures making totem poles and authentic Indian sweaters. Then it's on to Market Square, a modern open-air market that was once the site of saloons and opium dens. After partaking in the traditional afternoon "tea and crumpets" at the Empress Hotel, the tour ends with a leisurely stroll through the expansive floral acres of Butchart Gardens. The viewer is left with an image of Victoria as a progressive cosmopolitan city, a city which justifiably calls itself "the friendliest city in North America."

Visiting the Gaspé region of Quebec is a truly unique experience, and this panoramic program brings it all to life. Discovered by French explorer Jacques Cartier in 1534, the Gaspé Peninsula is a natural wonder. Roche Percé, the "pierced rock," is a natural monument and bird sanctuary, which is losing 375 tons of its mass every year. Bonaventure Island, declared a bird sanctuary in 1919, is an 1800-acre island, home to the second largest gannet colony in the world. Miguasha National Park is a paleontologist's dream. With an amazing assortment of fossils dating back 350-400 million, it is considered the most outstanding fossil site in the world. The Reford Gardens are one of Quebec's most popular National Historic sites. Renowned as an outstanding example of horticultural art, these gardens are designed in the style of 19th-century collectors' gardens. Lastly, we learn how sailors in the 16th century discovered the abundant fishing grounds of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, and how important fishing remains as part of daily life today.
