Not only are there slopes for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, but there are attractions for the non-skiers as well. Restaurants, museums, galleries, shops, spas, and other sports are available so there is something for everyone. Chateau Lake Louise is a year-round playground for celebrities, and this resort hosts a celebrity sports invitational each year. This year's event included Robin Leach, Ali MacGraw, and Angie Dickinson. Another of Canada's premier skiing resorts is located in British Columbia near Vancouver, the Whistler Ski Resort. Canada's premier resort is a family-friendly destination and is special because of its two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. Side by side, they offer over 8,000 acres of skiing and snowboarding possibilities, but activities are offered year round for everyone.

A Christmas that will never be forgotten begins with the Banff Springs Hotel rising majestically from its snowy surroundings and lifting the spirit of the season along with it. Inside this century-old "Castle of the Rockies" a chorus sings of Yuletide tradition along-side a crackling fireplace; while, outside, visitors are swept away by romantic adventures: dog sledding through the evergreen forest on trails of white snow, horse drawn sleighrides and ice skating to the magical tunes of the Nutcracker Suite. Viewers will see how hospitality and a cold climate make Banff a true winter wonderland.

Alive with celebration for the Festival d'Été, the streets of Quebec City are filled in the summer with colorful clowns, comic street jugglers and talented artists. Men in traditional red and blue uniforms re-enact a famous 1769 battle on the Plains of Abraham. Everyone is involved in the festivities - the very young are enraptured by flying acrobats while older people parade around with painted faces. Once inside Quebec City's imposing stone walls, an important history lesson is learned through its original architecture - every single building, including the most photographed hotel in the world, Château Frontenac, is preserved to respect the city's rich heritage. Viewers will totally appreciate this special glimpse of European life in North America.

This introduction to the Reno and the Lake Tahoe area begins by exploring the famous ghost town "Virginia City." Located southeast of Reno, this historic mining town was the most important stop between Denver and San Francisco during the silver mining boom in the 1800's. Here we see Piper's Opera House; built in the 1880's, this vintage theater attracted famous actors, singers, and musicians such as Buffalo Bill Cody and the Wild West Review. Also we board the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, once an important short train for moving silver, but today used only as an excursion train that takes tourists into 6 Mile Canyon. Next we head to Gold Hill, population 100; home to the oldest hotel in the state of Nevada, the Gold Hill Hotel. At the Virginia City Mines we learn that in two decades $18 million of gold and silver was mined here, which helped finance the city of San Francisco and the Union during the Civil War. We visit the 4th Ward Schoolhouse, which was built in the 1800's during the mining boom; this architecturally advanced building once accommodated over 1,000 students. Then we visit Sparks, Nevada; named after Governor John Sparks, this city is known for many attractions on Victorian Square and some of the best food is served at The Nugget, a family operation established in 1955. Lastly, we visit Lake Tahoe, which borders California and Nevada; it is the largest alpine lake in North America.

The Alaskan Gold Rush of 1882 brought prosperity to many brave adventurers and daring speculators. It also stimulated the development of several large cities, including Anchorage, which has grown from a small mining camp and railroad town into Alaska's largest commercial and transportation center. Located near Alaska's southeastern coast, the city itself is less than 100 years old, and its modern architecture and facilities provide a dramatic contrast to the wilderness and natural geological features five minutes away. Surprisingly, temperatures are relatively mild for Alaska, making the city a year-round tourist attraction - and one of America's most exciting cities. Viewers begin at Alaska International Airport, the world's largest seaplane airport, where small water-borne aircraft shuttle sport or commercial fishermen to the many remote and bountiful fishing sites in close proximity to the city. Viewers then visit one of Alaska's many resorts, where you can hike along the Wintercreek Trail or ride a tramway up the mountains, which border the city. Viewers take a boat cruise at the base of Portage Glacier, the most visited attraction in Alaska, only 45 minutes from Anchorage. After taking time out to pan for gold on one of Alaska's many pristine streams, the tour ends with a visit to the Native Art Museum in downtown Anchorage. Experiencing Anchorage is like finding that elusive gold nugget in a wilderness stream - you can't wait to come back for more!

There is the harbor area for boating and sightseeing, and Ontario Place is a family-oriented park. You can browse the fresh produce and flowers at the St. Lawrence Market or visit historic Fort York, a battleground between Americans and British colonial troops, which is now an open-air museum. Canada's longest running fair is held in Toronto at the Canadian National Exhibition. Sports are key to Toronto, which is the location for the world famous Sky Dome, home to the Toronto Blue Jays. We also visit the Hockey Hall of Fame, a museum that traces the history of the game, houses the largest collection of hockey artifacts, and honors its players. After a day of viewing all the attractions, you're sure to enjoy the city's nightlife as well, and a visit to the Princess of Wales' Theater is a must.

Located near the California-Nevada border, Reno has earned the title, "biggest little city in the world," given to it in the 1920s when gaming became a popular tourist attraction. In comparison, nearby Virginia City is a ghost town. In 1859 the Comstock Lode, the biggest silver find in the world, was discovered, and Virginia City was established as a booming mining town, lush with silver barons' mansions and over 750 miles of mining tunnels under the city. Today those boom days have been re-created, and tourists can get the flavor of what the city was like in the 19th century by visiting a silver mine and learning about the process or visiting the newspaper office where Samuel Clemens was a reporter before he became Mark Twain. Back in Reno, we learn that the transcontinental railroad saved this city, built in 1868 as a mining town. As Virginia City declined, Reno became a thriving trading center due to convenient transportation, and when gaming was legalized in the early 20th century, Reno became a neon world that never shuts down. Although casinos are the most popular entertainment, there are other attractions as well. The National Bowling Stadium, with 80 championship lanes and high-tech equipment, is a place where the entire family can have fun. You can indulge your food cravings, enjoy the many first-class shows, or simply relish the sights and sounds of the city where "anything goes."
