Our first stop is to the cosmopolitan capital city of Buenos Aires, a cultural centerpiece, which includes the La Boca district, a picturesque old port known as the birthplace of the Tango, plus the Casa Rosada, the presidential palace, also known as the pink palace. This is where political history was born on May 25, 1810, when the patriots gathered and rid the city of Spanish conquerors, and where Evita Peron gave her famous speeches. Next we explore the Tierra del Fuego peninsula and visit the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, at the foot of the Andes and tucked along the Beagle Channel, named for its majestic shape; then we travel south to the Falkland Islands, remembered for its war in the 1980s, and well known for its rugged beauty, wildlife and brightly colored homes. Captain John Davis of England discovered these islands in 1592.

The first stop is China's Hong Kong, the international trading city, which is a sophisticated and exotic mix of Eastern and Western cultures. Here we see Po Lin Monastery's Big Buddha on Lantau Island, Yuen Po Bird Market, and Aberdeen, home of the floating fishing village. In Vietnam, located in the eastern part of the Indochina peninsula, we visit China Beach and the Marble Mountains, as well as the industrial city of Da Nang and the ancient city of Hoi An. Singapore offers a combination of Western style development and Eastern style calm, which can undoubtedly be attributed to its history. It was originally founded by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles and achieved its independence in 1965. The Sri Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in the country. Bali, Indonesia, is known for its friendly people, beautiful jungles and mountains, and spectacular beaches; also we visit the Goa Lawah Temple. Australia's Northern Territory capital, Darwin, is a modern city playing a pivotal role in the expansion of the Austral-Asian region. Then on the Queensland coast of the island-continent we visit the popular city of Cairns as well as the treasured rainforests. And the journey ends on the northeast coast of Australia, on the Great Barrier Reef, the site of the world's largest collection of coral reefs.

Here too we witness the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride, an evening of traditional entertainment with a troop of 32 horses and riders performing cavalry drills choreographed to music. Here we explore one of the world's greatest urban parks, the 1,000-acre Stanley Park; also the Vancouver Aquarium, which introduces visitors to underwater environments ranging from the Arctic to the Amazon. Granville Island, a small peninsula connected to downtown via the Granville Street Bridge, is a multi-use facility including industry, commerce, and entertainment; then to Grouse Mountain, an aerial sky ride that takes visitors on a one-mile journey above the city. Also we remember the Royal Hudson Steam Train, a 1930's restored steam engine that once offered rides from Vancouver to Squamish. Next is the Calgary Stampede; called the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth," this annual exhibition celebrates the agricultural and historical legacy of the past. In Banff we visit the Banff Springs Hotel. Built in 1888 it is one of the lavish hotels constructed by the Canadian Pacific Railroad to entice visitors to ride the rails to the Rockies and enjoy the Upper Hot Springs Pool. Lastly, we take a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, getting a spectacular view of Banff and the entire Bow Valley.

No visit to Montreal would be complete without a trip to St. Catherine's Street, where shopping is supreme. Other attractions include ice skating, visiting the Natural Science Museum and Polar World. Casino nightlife is always popular, but be sure to end your visit here with a romantic carriage ride through Old Montreal to view the architecture. Our tour continues to Quebec and the world's largest winter carnival. First begun in 1894 by French settlers to celebrate before Lent, the carnival has grown into an important event for both tourists and locals, with activities and fun that last for 11 days. Visit such events as snow bathing, axe throwing, and wood chopping competitions. Enjoy a delicious maple syrup snow cone while attending a highlight of the Winter Carnival, the International Snow Sculpture Event, with participants from around the world. Before you leave the city, take a break from the carnival's activities and visit one of Quebec's main attractions, the Chateau Frontenac, one of the most photographed hotels in the world. Built overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, the hotel provides spectacular views from all vantage points.

Canada's premier resort is a family-friendly destination and is special because of its two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. Side by side, they offer over 8,000 acres of skiing and snowboarding possibilities, but activities are offered year round for everyone.

Located on the tip of Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Victoria is a modern city with architectural and historical ties to England. It boasts palatial structures and parliamentary buildings that rival its London counterparts, and its double-decker buses and customary "afternoon tea" are clear reminders of British cultural influence. In this program, Hosts Jake and Mieke de Boer take viewers on a whirlwind tour of one of North America's great cities. The tour starts at the Swift Sure Regatta in Victoria Bay, where over 250 yachts compete in the annual 132 mile racing event. The next stop is the Inner Harbor Causeway, one of historic Victoria's most recognizable features, which once functioned as a footbridge across James Bay. The tour then moves to Duncan, the site of the Native Heritage Center, where viewers see artisans from five native cultures making totem poles and authentic Indian sweaters. Then it's on to Market Square, a modern open-air market that was once the site of saloons and opium dens. After partaking in the traditional afternoon "tea and crumpets" at the Empress Hotel, the tour ends with a leisurely stroll through the expansive floral acres of Butchart Gardens. The viewer is left with an image of Victoria as a progressive cosmopolitan city, a city which justifiably calls itself "the friendliest city in North America."

Bonaventure Island, declared a bird sanctuary in 1919, is an 1800-acre island, home to the second largest gannet colony in the world. Miguasha National Park is a paleontologist's dream. With an amazing assortment of fossils dating back 350-400 million, it is considered the most outstanding fossil site in the world. The Reford Gardens are one of Quebec's most popular National Historic sites. Renowned as an outstanding example of horticultural art, these gardens are designed in the style of 19th-century collectors' gardens. Lastly, we learn how sailors in the 16th century discovered the abundant fishing grounds of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, and how important fishing remains as part of daily life today.
