Abstract / Summary
The congress, which was held in Tehran in November and December 1932, is outlined in detail in this document. The first pages examine the state of “eastern” feminism and introduce several conference participants, most notably the delegates from Egypt and Syria. Meeting minutes follow this brief introduction, which include names and affiliations of conference participants as well as a description of each session. Discussion focused on such topics as women’s social and economic equality with men, education, standards of morality and women’s right to public space, feminist readings of Koranic Law, and perceptions of Western women and Western feminism. At the end of the conference, women debated these topics in reference to adopting resolutions on Muslim women’s position in society.
