Description

Mieczyslaw Kolinski considers Dahomey Suite to be a stylistic experiment in which he blends West African musical style with the tonal music of the western tradition. Dahomey, now Benin, has a rich musical tradition based in vocal technique that Kolinski translates into beautiful oboe melodies, played by Lois Wann, and accompanied by piano and traditional percussion instruments. Extensive liner notes and an in-depth musical analysis complete this experiment in style blending.
