Abstract / Summary
Begins writing in Washington, D.C. Went to the National Woman’s Party exercises , with ceremony honoring Lucretia Mott. Other attendees include Emma Wold, Abby M. Hall Roberts, and Ruby Black. Meetings, tea, dinner, etc. concerning the Peace House, Women’s Peace Society, and the National Woman’s Party. Went to Jacksonville, 5 January, discusses segregation, then to West Palm Beach, Miami, and then on to Havana, Cuba. Attended the Pan American Conference as the representative of the Women’s Peace Society and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Interviewed Manuel Delgado and many others. Frequently mentions Miss Elliot, who was staying with Park in Havana. Meets Doris Stevens of the NWP; they do a lot together. Submits stories daily on the meeting to the Federated Press in Chicago. Brief reference to Equal Rights Amendment—effort to secure support from other representatives at Pan American Union meeting. Speaks at a meeting of a WCTU affiliate in Havana, Union Temp. Feminista. Mentions a Holiday Parade on 28 January in Havana, possibly an equal rights rally as well. Discusses the daily meetings and interviews conducted during the conference and includes sporadic newspaper articles. Attended meeting of the Feminist Club of Cuba. Bruce Bliven among reporters covering the events. After the conference, Park notes that the NWP set many precedents for women while in Cuba. Travelled to Panama in February, drove through Canal zone, travelled to Balboa and Panama City. At end she writes that her movements were followed while in Havana—mail and room watched as well. Copies of “Occupied Haiti” sent by Emily Balch confiscated.
