Abstract / Summary

Meetings, Missed Connections, and Searches: The Feminist Movement in Latin America Beginning in 1981, Latin American and Caribbean women’s organizations have hosted regional and national feminist meetings to discuss and support feminist movements across Latin America. Discussion topics at these conferences ranged from lesbianism to prostitution and from racism to economic justice. This collection of essays is particularly concerned with fleshing out the disagreements that ensued during the seventh conference of Encuentros Feministas. That conference focused on the connection of the feminist movement to the changing political climate due to neoliberalism and globalization. This book gives voice to reflections on that meeting, and its an appendix provides a description of the agreements made during the workshops of the seventh conference. The purpose of these essays was to continue the debates from the seventh conference.
