- Women and the Church: Sexuality and Abortion in Latin America This collection of essays, written by six Latin American women and one North American woman, tackles the topics of abortion, sexuality, and religion within the Latin American context. Catholics for a Free Choice, an organization concerned with the Vatican’s policies towards abortion, HIV/AIDS, and contraception, sponsored this effort to call attention to these controversial topics. The essays explore the Catholic Church’s expropriation of Indian traditions, its use of guilt, and women’s growing self-determination. This document provides a view of women’s contestations of the Catholic Church’s policies.
