- Abstract / Summary
- “Universal Gathering for Peace, Brussels Congress, 3-6 September 1936,” L’Egyptienne 124 (July-August 1936): pp. 28-32. This document includes several brief articles written on the occasion of the Brussels Congress for International Peace in September 1936. The short articles outline various segments of the pacifist agenda, including the “four points” generated by the Universal Gathering: the inviolability of international treaties; international accords regulating national arms possessions; enforcing the League of Nation’s authority in matters of collective security; and establishing within the League of Nations a mechanism for mediating international conflicts. Other brief articles outline feminism’s connections to the international peace movement since women, as wives and mothers of soldiers, are supposedly pacifists by nature.
