- Abstract / Summary
- A pregnancy leads to horrific psychological consequences for Janice (Ratcliff), a teenage girl forced to get an abortion. The rebellious girl is sent to a mental health institution by her parents, her problems exacerbated with harsh, controversial 'therapies' including shock therapy. A poignant story around the theme of schizophrenia from Ken Loach (The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Kes), master of social realism.
