- Abstract / Summary
- Many Hindu activists in the independence movement equated Hindu religion with Indian national identity. Such nationalists often discouraged conversion to Christianity, a religion that they associated with British rule and Western cultural imperialism. The fact that Vishnu came from an "intouchable" family made him vulnerable to bullying.
