Abstract / Summary
This article discusses the civil rights movement in the United States and the sufferings of African Americans. Events, such as the racially motivated bombings in Birmingham, Alabama, were an object lesson for Indonesians, illustrating how the American imperialists carried out their aggressive actions within their own country, in addition to what they did in other countries. The African American experience within the United States was a reminder to Indonesians to uphold the interests of bumiputera (indigenous) Indonesians.
