- A page labeled 'Field Notes 487-492' introduces nine pages of handwritten notes on fishing and maritime trading, including: the cultural role; a map of the Trobriand Islands with numerous labels in indigenous text; fishing expeditions; fishing magic; a diagram of canoe arrangements; fishing and inland trading; and the Kula maritime trading cycle. They are written on the back of various reused stationery, including: partial typed notes on field methodology; a partial, written letter from the Seligmans; a partial, typed manuscript on the Mailu of southern New Guinea; and letterhead from the London School of Economics.
