- Four undated, handwritten pages of notes are headed, 'Main Post -- A Kinship System of Melanesia -- Ch. I Kinship in the Life of the Trobriand Islanders.' Noted in red pencil to the right of the title is 'Summary of pp 1-43 already dictated.' The notes consist of a heavily annotated chapter outline with sections including: The village and the household; Rules of Marriage and Descent; Kinship and the Native Theory of Procreation; Constitution of Tribe, and Clan and Social Groups, followed by further annotations on clans and common life.
