- Abstract / Summary
- Four densely typed pages with torn corners contain a report on Kiriwinian trading expeditions to other Trobriand Islands and beyond, prepared for M.H. Moreton, Resident Magistrate of the South Eastern District, Papua, New Guinea. Malinowski offers a summary overview of the Kula trading cycle, noting that some voyages trade in usable goods and food, while others trade in symbolic wealth items. Described are: customs and practices of canoe preparation and launch; sailing; trading and relations with other villages; and departures and returns. The notes end with lists of trade items exported from and imported to Kiriwina. A title is handwritten on one corner of the back of the last page, such that it will be in the upper right corner when the entire package is folded.
