Abstract / Summary
A page contains six handwritten items, numbered with Roman numerals and all crossed out, naming different kinds of magic of the Trobriand Islanders, such as that associated with the burning of fields or encouraging the growth of yams. In the upper-right corner are listed the months, beginning with September, and associated terms in indigenous text -- apparently the names of festivals or dances, starting with the Milamala harvest festival. Some sections are written in, underlined or otherwise set apart with green pencil. A boxed note reads, 'The green marked pieces to be checked with Kwaluva,' possibly the name of a native informant. The notes are written on the back of a partial, typed letter, probably from Charles Seligman to Malinowski, discussing the work of a colleague and mentioning that he is in regular contact with Malinowski's mother.
