- Abstract / Summary
- Date: 3.3.18. Place: Oburaku (Kiriwina). Informant: Ikwayoulo. A handwritten page, mostly in English but with numerous terms in indigenous text of the Trobriands, discusses various magic spells or chants associated with the wind, to be spoken either on land or at sea, when sailing. Included are names and descriptors of kinds of winds. At the bottom is a diagram -- a 12-point compass with words in indigenous text at each compass point (possibly the names of destinations) -- and comments in English about the strength and character of the wind in that direction. The notes are written on reused stationery, consisting of a partial, typed manuscript discussing an unspecified native group's attitude toward crime and punishment.
