- Date: 19.8.34. Place: Kavataria (Kiriwina). A two-page letter in French, mostly typed but with handwritten final paragraph and post-script, is from Raphael Brudo, a pearl-trader in the Kiriwinian village of Kavataria. The letter was sent to Malinowski in London to be read upon his return from Africa. Mentioned is: the anticipated arrival of a set of proofs from Malinowski's editor; Malinowski's continued fame in Kiriwina; amusing stories of the natives; and a deadly assault on a supposed sorcerer.
