Abstract / Summary: Nineteen pages comprise photocopies of field notes, mostly typed, about the Mundugamor people of New Guinea from late November to mid-December 1932. There are numerous terms in indigenous text. Nearly half the source is made up of an extensive account of the making of a new ashin -- a ceremonial flute imbued with the spirit of a crocodile -- with associated ceremonies and totemistic practices. Other topics include: homicide and cannibalism; canoe building; painting; children's games; kinship nomenclature; totemism. The copies are accompanied by a barely legible, hand-written note, dated July 4, 1977, that seems to indicate these were 'Taken out - Xeroxed' by or for someone.
