Details
- Abstract / Summary
- Pakistan has important strategic endowments and development potential. The country is located at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, China and the Middle East and is thus at the epicentre of a regional market with a vast population, large and diverse resources and untapped potential for trade. Furthermore, a successful campaign against militants has brightened the economic growth outlook in the medium term, raising investor and consumer sentiment, while the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will provide a stimulus to the economy and improve infrastructure. Nevertheless, investors face numerous challenges in terms of Pakistan's trade and investment environment. The country imposes significant bureaucratic hurdles, which cause extensive delays and costs when opening and closing a business and also make complying with a complex tax framework more time-consuming. These issues are compounded by a high level of corruption and a brittle security environment, which are likely to deter investors.
