Louis Sarno's notes on liner card (ms ink) – 'MBOLA '93, '94/ Gano '86, '87. 59'

Louis Sarno's notes on liner card (ms ink) – 'Tracks 1-7: from Mbola night 6 May '93 at Yandoumbé. This mbola was danced by the younger teenage boys. Total time: 33 1/2m. Track times: 1) 3 1/2m. 2) 6m. 3) 5 1/2m. 4) 3m. 5) 5 1/2m. 6) 5m. 7) 4 1/2m, end Mbola night 6 May '93 Yandoumbé. Tracks 8-11: from Mbola noon 10 July '94 at Boungingi spear-hunting camp. The men danced this short Mbola one day in our forest camp at Boungingi. A drum, made in the camp, is a somewhat unorthodox addition to this mbola. Normally mbola is danced without a drum. The hunters were in high spirits, having returned after a 2-day hunting trip with game. Total time: 11 1/2m. Track times: 8) 2 1/2m. 9) 1 1/2m. 10) 1 1/2m. 11) 6m, end Mbola 10 July '94 Boungingi. GANO. Tracks 12-14: from Gano night 15th Jan. 1986 at Kenyé. This session was mostly with Balonyona as storyteller. I recorded it on my very first night with the Bayaka of Kenyé. Choir includes everyone: men, women, and some children. Total time: 17m. Track times: 12) 7m. 13) 4m. 14) 6m, end Gano 15 Jan. '86 at Kenyé. Track 15: From something I recorded night 17 Jan '86 at Kenyé. It followed a Boyobi for amusement. Is it Gano? I don't know. TIME: 17m minutes. Track 16-23: From Gano night 3 March '87 at Kenyé. Principal storyteller was Ndeemo (16-20) and Balonyona (21-23). Total time: 32m. Track times: 16) 1 1/2m. 17) 4m. 18) 6m. 19) 4 1/2m. 20) 6m. 21) 3 1/2m. 22) 4m. 23) 2 1/2m. Track 24: Forest scene. Primary forest at Moboi, August 1994 (with black cuckoo, red-chested cuckoo etc). END DAT 59'
