- Review
- The first of two CDs, this music was released for the first time in 1991. An all-star front line (clarinetist Tony Parenti, cornetist Wild Bill Davison and trombonist Lou McGarity) is backed by Ernie Carson (normally a trumpeter) on surprisingly effective piano, bassist Jerry Rousseau and drummer Bob Dean. Although Parenti passed away in 1972, he is was fluent as ever on this late date, Davison has plenty of typically colorful outbursts and it is a pleasure to hear McGarity in such a freewheeling setting. All eight of the songs are Dixieland warhorses (including "Avalon," "Blue Turning Grey Over You," "Love Is Just Around the Corner" and "When You're Smiling") and no real surprises occur but the music on the live Atlanta concert is quite fun. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
