This is a lengthy report documenting every session of the International Women’s Congress meeting in Paris, 1945. The Congress included over 850 delegates, representing 181 national and international organizations which together represent eighty-one million women worldwide, and an effort was made to promote the goals of peace, democracy, and women’s rights in the post-Second World War era. The first chapter is entitled “Women’s Participation in the Fight Against Fascism,” which was led by reports from delegates representing the USSR, France, Great Britain, and China, and included detailed responses from nineteen countries. In similar organization, the following chapters address women’s participation in the struggle for democracy and peace, women’s economic, legal, and social situations, the topic of children’s education, as well as statutes adopted by the Women’s International Democratic Federation. The source is particularly useful in understanding the organization of transnational feminism while providing specific and detailed insights from dozens of national contexts.
