Accounts: Eighth Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Meeting, Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic, 1999
Since 1981, Latin American and Caribbean women’s organizations have hosted regional and national feminist meetings to discuss and support feminist movements across Latin America. Discussion topics at these conferences ranged from lesbianism to prostitution and from racism to economic justice.
This report of the Eighth Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Meeting provides information on the preparation for the meeting as well as a synthesis of workshops at the meeting. Preparations for hosting the Eighth Feminist Meeting included hosting the First National Feminist Meeting in the Dominican Republic as well as discussing the agenda of this conference at a Regional Caribbean Feminist Meeting. Workshop topics at the meeting included new modes of domination, feminism as a social movement, and the particular perspectives of Latin American and Caribbean feminism. This document provides insight into how these Feminist Meetings were organized as well as documentation of what occurred at the Eighth Conference.
