New low-tech screening programmes have begun to reduce cancer deaths but campaigners like Sarah Nyombi, a politician in Uganda, wants to see more. She’s trying to get a brand new vaccine, widely used in the developed world. The trouble is, it cost $300 dollars a shot, way beyond Uganda’s health budget. We follow her journey as she tries to find solutions in the battle against The Real Lady Killer.

In many parts of Malawi girls have a very low social status. In the more traditional communities, such as amongst the Yao people, young girls and boys go through initiation rites as they move into adulthood. In some cases girls are forced to have sex with older men as part of this, and often girls as young as 11 are married off to escape poverty. As a result they are especially vulnerable to early pregnancy and HIV. Relative Values meets 16 year-old Ajamia who had a child by her stepfather. She lived with him to escape poverty, doing the job of a servant. Ajamia's stepfather, who is four times her age, sees nothing wrong with their relationship. Against the background of initiation rites that are taking place at the time of filming, Relative Values explores the struggle between cultural traditions and female health and wellbeing.

What would have happened if Lehman Brothers had been Lehman Sisters? Would the American investment company have gone under in the same way? If women had been in charge, would they have made the same mistakes? There is obviously no answer to this question, but the irony underlying it is present in the minds of some women in positions of power. It reflects their disgruntlement with how business, politics and the world in general are being run according to what they consider to be ‘male values.' The program begins in Iceland, a country hit hard by the economic crisis, where women are filling positions left vacant in the wake of the economic collapse. Other women adding their voices to this report include Elena Salgado, Spanish Minister of Economy and Finance; Christine Lagarde, French Minister of Economy and Noelia Fernández Arroyo, of Yahoo Europe.

THE CUTTING TRADITION
Female Circumcision in Africa Today
A film by Nancy Durell McKenna and John Howarth
Narrated by Meryl Streep
The Cutting Tradition focuses on the issue of female genital mutilation (FGM), a custom, which appears barbaric to the westernised eye but is still practiced in many African and some Middle-Eastern countries. Despite being illegal in many of the places where it is practiced, FGM continues to be administered to very young women, often even little girls. In the majority of cases it exposes them to medical and psychological problems from which they sometimes never recover. The reasons are rooted in religious, cultural and historical grounds; this film comprises a balanced and non-judgemental exploration into those factors.
Natives of Burkina Faso, Egypt, Djibouti and Ethiopia express their opinions both in support of and against FGM. Their authentic, undiluted statements highlight the difficulty of resolving an issue that is as deeply rooted in their cultures as it is shocking to us. Narrated by Meryl Streep, with footage of traditional wedding celebrations and a shocking scene which follows a young girl experiencing FGM, Streep's narration takes us through this journey in a delicate and non-judgemental way.
